California has entered the Era of Megafires: a time in which wildfires destroy entire communities, kill people, and cost Californians billions of dollars in damage every year. Decades of wildland mismanagement, overzealous wildfire suppression policies, and development in and around wildland areas have brought about this time in the State’s history. With climate change making land hotter and drier, the conditions that cause megafires and ensuing disasters are only destined to get worse.
